Readers' Theatre

Today we performed our Readers' Theatres. In Readers' Theatre all of the acting is done with the voice. Students need to have good expression and loud voices to successfully perform. I was very impressed with everyone! Many of our quieter students showed off their voice acting chops. Bravo to everyone!

The following videos are each about 8 minutes long. Unfortunately, the sound is not great and you'll need to turn up the volume on your computer. Enjoy!

The Lazy People with Thomas, Riley, Zac, Shea, Bailey, Cameron, and Nick

Some of these mummies are so good, I'm not sure who everyone is. If I messed up on someone's name, please let me know!

Halloween Fun!

Happy Halloween from all the ghosts, goblins, vets, clowns, skeletons, and more in our class!

Alexa, Jacey, Cameron, Zac and Alex enjoying their donuts.

Ethan, Riley, Jordan, Taven, and Dawson gather together.
How many words can you make from Happy Halloween?

Bailey and Chelsea hurry to move their candy corn from one bowl to another.

Thank you for all the parents who volunteered to help with the party. We also appreciated all the treats that were sent in for our celebration!

Ethan's Discovery Day

Ethan's mom brought us our latest Discovery Day project. She provided each child with the following: cardboard, cloth, wooden spoon, tape, and aluminum foil. Everyone had to use only these supplies to build a boat that would float and hold pennies.
Alex and Shea working on their boats.
Zac planning his last step in boat building.
Kayden and Taven start work on their boats.
Mayson waits patiently after finishing his boat as Ethan adds last minute touches.
They float!
But what will happen as the cargo (pennies) is loaded?

What a great chance for the kids to experiment and make predictions about their finished projects! It would be fun to recreate this experiment at home with different supplies and different cargo.

(For the record, I do have girls in my class! I have no idea why Lexi is the only one in any of the pictures. Sorry girls! I'll get you next time.)

Tween Tribune

Today in computers, we explored a new website called Tween Tribune. It is a site with news articles tailored for children! The articles lead to some very interesting conversations. It can be accessed at tweentribune.com

It is accessible from any internet connection.

In the future, each of the students will create a login and be able to comment on the articles. In this way, the class will be learning about current events and practicing writing opinions. In fifth grade, all students will be writing a persuasive essay for the state test. This website is a great way for your child to get a head start on persuasive writing
